Detectives in Chittagong on Monday recovered gold bars worth more than Tk12 crore from a market in the port city.
Acting on a tip off, police raided the fifth floor of the Bahar Market in Reazuddin Bazar area, where they found and seized three safes, said Chittagong DB's Additional Deputy Commissioner Babul Akhtar.
The safes were later brought to the Kotwali station, where one of them was opened to find 250 pieces of gold, each weighing approximately 10 tola. The market value of the gold would be around Tk12.50 crore, said Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge Jashim Uddin.
Around Tk60 lakh were also found in another safe, while the final one was empty.
