Indigenous woman sexually harassed in Capital

A 21-year-old indigenous woman has been sexually harassed near Dakkhinkhan area of Uttara in the capital on Sunday night.

Shakil Chambu Gong, Dhaka city unit vice president of GASO, a Garo rights organisation, told the Dhaka Tribune.

He said the victim was returning home after her work place around 9pm.

A man followed her and entered her flat forcefully and attempted to rape her and after being resisted he assaulted her mercilessly.

Locals rushed to her place after hearing victim’s scream. However, the man managed to flee the scene, he added.

Later, with the assistance locals, the woman went to the Dakkhinkhan police station and after the information of the incident, Shakil Chambu rushed to the police station.

Shakil said the victim works at a beauty parlor and the offender might be her neighbor.

Sub-inspector Nur Alam of Dakkhinkhan police station said the process of filing a case in this connection was underway.
