A Dhaka court yesterday ordered a judicial probe against five policemen including the officer-in-charge of Jatrabari police station Aboni Shankar Khar after a woman filed a case on charges of sexual abuse.
After recording statement of the complainant, Judge Shafiul Azam of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention tribunal directed Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman to investigate the allegation.
The court also asked police to submit a probe report seven working days.
On Wednesday, the 35-year-old woman, a resident of Uttar Kutubkhali area of Jatrabari, on Wednesday lodged the complaint.
The four others are sub-inspectors Jashim and Zaman, constable Debashish of Jatrabari and SI Abdul Kader of Mugdha police station.
According to the case statement, the plaintiff’s younger brother Imran Hossain married SI Kader’s daughter last October. But Kader did not accept the marriage and filed a case against Imran, who was sent to jail, but came out after securing bail.
OC Abani then called Imran to the station to settle the matterm but asked for Tk100,000 when Imran went there. Later, on December 3, SI Kader called Imran and the plaintiff at his house where Imran was tortured and the plaintiff physically assaulted.
Then, the accused took them to Jatrabari police station where the Jatrabari OC also harassed the plaintiff, the case statement said.
