BCL man held over arms case at CU

An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) man of Chittagong University (CU) unit has been arrested from CU campus on Wednesday in a case lodged under Arms Act with Hathazari Police in last year.

Abu Taher Mamun, student of masters of International Relations department, was arrested from campus gate no: 2 area of CU at the noon, Hathazari OC Mohammed Ismail told the Dhaka Tribune.

Campus sources said Mamun is loyal to CU BCL unit general secretary HM Fazly Rabbi Sujon’s group.

The supporters of president group and general secretary group of CU BCL unit had locked into a fierce clash leaving at least 30 persons including four policemen on the campus over trivial matter on November 2 on the first day of CU intake examination under 2015-2016 academic session.

Chittagong District Police’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar) Md Shahidullah and Hathazari police station OC was critically injured during the clash while police recovered firearms and huge sharp weapons.

Three cases were filed under Arms Act and assaulting police personnel.
