Muezzin arrested for raping child in Gopalganj

Police have arrested a muezzin of BSCIC Jame Mosque in Gopalganj for allegedly raping a five-year old child on Sunday. Md Selim Reza, OC of Gopalganj Sadar police station, told the Dhaka Tribune that they have arrested the muezzin for allegedly violating the child in his room in the morning. The detainee, Abdur Rahim, 24, son of Akkash Sikder, hailed from Sitarampur village of Kashiani upazila in the district. Quoting family member, the police official said: “Muezzin took the victim in his room after teaching in the mosque and raped.” “Being informed, locals confined the muezzin to his room for one and half hours. Later, police arrested him.” A case will be lodged in this regard after receiving complaint from the victim, he added. The muezzin, however, denied the allegation brought against him and claimed innocent and said: “He has been victimised.”
