Mirpur JMB den bust arrestee confesses

Update : 05 Jan 2016, 07:14 PM

A member of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, arrested during a drive at Mirpur, gave confessional statement before a Dhaka court yesterday in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Metropolitan Magistrate Khurshid Alam recorded the confessional statement of Mohsin Ali alias Rubel and sent him to jail.

Rubel and two other JMB members – Abu Sayeed alias Rasel alias Salman and Md Elias alias Omar Faruk – were arrested from a house in Mirpur area on December 24 after a 14-hour-long drive by the police, RAB and SWAT teams. The law enforcers also seized at least 17 hand-made grenades from them.

They were placed on police remand twice in the case filed with Shah Ali police.

Rubel said that the house had been used by the JMB as its training and supply centre. He, however, did not name the senior leaders of the outlawed group.

DB Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that drives were under way to arrest the top leaders of the JMB faction.

Sources said that the JMB had established a similar training centre in Chittagong.

DB said the recovered grenades were similar to those used in the Taziah attack.
