A female brick kiln worker in Jessore’s Chaugachha upazila has allegedly took her own life after she was raped.
The body of Sharifa Khatun, 36, was recovered from Farzana Bricks, a brick kiln in the upazila’s Tetulbaria area where she worked, on Saturday night. She was the wife of Laltu of Khulna’s Paikgachha upazila and daughter of Idris Ali.
Locals said Sharifa was raped on Saturday evening and committed suicide because she could not live with the disgrace.
Officer-in-Charge of Chaugachha police station Ilias Hossain said the cause of Sharifa’s death could not be ascertained until the post-mortem report was available.
