A court in Chittagong has placed three members of banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), who arrested in possession of a huge number of arms and ammunition, on a four-day remand.

“Naimur Rahman Nayon, Md Shawkat Rasel and Faisal Mahmud were put on a four-day remand in connection with two cases lodged with Bayazid police station after they were produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Nowrin Akhtar Kakon around 3pm Sunday,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Kazi Muttaki Ibn Minan (prosecution).

He said: “The court granted one-day remand in the case filed under Explosive Act and three-day remand in another case filed on charge of attacking police and killing a JMB leader.

Earlier, another court had sent three expelled students of Chittagong University (CU)’s physics department to jail on Saturday on completion of their five-day remand in another case filed under Anti-Terrorism act filed with Karnaphuli police station.

After arresting the three, officials had raided a JMB den in Aman Bazar area and recovered American semiautomatic MK 11 sniper rifle along with 250 rounds of bullet, two magazines, 10 detonators, 12 sets of Bangladesh Army uniforms and some books and other documents on December 27.

On October 5, 2015, police arrested five JMB men including Towfiqul Islam alias Javed, 22, head of explosive wing of JMB in Chittagong district. Nine handmade grenades, arms ammunition and a large amount of bomb-making materials were seized from their possession.

On the following day October 6, Javed was killed and four policemen were injured in a grenade blast when DB men raided a house at Bayezid for recovering arms.
