Although initial reports suggested that the two men killed in a RAB gunfight at Gazipur yesterday were JMB members Minhaz and Mahbub, the Dhaka Tribune has found that at least one of those men was still alive and well.
Sitting in his Purba Enayetpur village home, Mahbub said yesterday that he and Minhaz were both taken to the RAB Headquarters on Sunday immediately after their release from Kashimpur Jail, where they stayed behind bars for over 10 years in a militancy case. Later in the evening, his uncles picked him up from there, Mahbub said.
Hours after Mahbub returned home, two suspected militants were killed during a gunfight with RAB in Gazipur.
Following the shootout in the early hours of yesterday, RAB legal and media wing Assistant Director Maj Maksudul Alam said the two militants died after police fired in self defence during a raid in Bhogrha area.
Gazipur Sadar Hospital sources said the deceased men were autopsied yesterday.
