4 held with 14.5kg gold at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence officials have detained four people with 125 gold bars, weighing 14.5kg, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The detainees are Anwara Begum, 30, Nahida Farzana Moni, 25, Anwar Parvez, 25, and Osman Sohel, 29.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Director General Dr Moinul Khan confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “They arrived at the airport on a flight around 1pm. The fight came from Kuwait via Chittagong where the two women boarded in as passengers.

“Later, the male passengers handed over the gold bars to them.”

He said: “The gold bars were concealed in the waists of the women who were identified as parlour employees.”

He said the estimated price of the gold is Tk7 crore.
