Alleged female drug dealer sent to jail

Update : 18 Dec 2015, 08:14 PM

A Dhaka court yesterday sent an alleged female drug dealer to jail in a case filed against her under the Narcotics Control Act 1990.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibul Haque sent Rubina alias Romana, 26, to the jail after investigation officer of the case Sub-Inspector Shamim Shikdar plead to the court to jail her and not grant bail since the case was still under investigation.

Rubina was arrested on Thursday afternoon from in front of Dutch Bangla Bank booth in Karwan Bazar of the capital. Police sources said she was held for suspicious behaviour.

When contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Tejgaon police station Mazharul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that a patrol team of police in Karwan Bazar area found her movement in front of the booth suspicious.

As no female police personnel were present at that hour, they asked her to get in the car to go to the police station, the OC said.

“But when she refused to do so and started screaming, members of the patrol team forcibly got her into the police vehicle, “ he added.

Mazharul Islam said: “After the team brought her to the station, female police searched her and found 18 yaba pills in her possession.”

Eyewitnesses, wishing to be unnamed, told the Dhaka Tribune that the woman was crying for help and shouting that she was innocent. When a photographer from a Bangla daily newspaper tried to take photographs of the incident, the police surrounded her, got her up on the vehicle forcibly and took her away.
