Members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have detained three members of an international human trafficking syndicate from different areas in Dhaka.
The detainees are Al Azad, Firoz Ahmed and Krishno Gopal Dey.
CID SSP (Organised Crime) Mirza Abdullahel Baqui confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Friday morning.
Later at a press briefing Baqui said Azad was detained from Banani DOHS area, Firoz from Uttara and Krishno from Tanti Bazar area in a night-long drive conducted on Thursday. They also recovered Tk15,00000 from Krishno’s possession.
An Australian citizen named Mr John came to Bangladesh five months ago. He put an advertisement in Bikroy.com for his chain shops. He lured people with the fake promise of recruiting them.
“The man took two fortune seekers to Indonesia with the promise of giving them job in Australia and detained them there. Later, he released them after taking ransom from their families in Bangladesh,” said Baqui.
The victims returned to Bangladesh and one of them – Kauser Ahmed – filed a case with Demra police station which was later handed over to CID.
The SSP said: “Kauser paid Tk16,00000 as ransom. The detainees were working for John.”
