An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with law enforcers at Banshkhali upazila of district yesterday. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Sawpan Kumar Talukdar, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali police station said a gang of armed robbers entered the house of Belal Master breaking the door around 1:15am.
When the house inmates tried to resist, the robbers stabbed them with sharp weapons, leaving seven of the inmates injured. On information, police rushed to the spot.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire at police, prompting them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, one of the robbers was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene.
Two policemen were also injured. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue.
A light gun and 10 bullets were recovered from the spot, said police sources.
