The police could not confirm whether the rescued 20 women were accumulated on trafficking purpose. However, the women were sent to Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka with police escort as they claimed that they have a flight for Saudi Arab yesterday night.
Earlier, police yesterday detained a suspected human trafficker and rescued 20 women from a Dhaka-bound Shyamoly Paribahan bus in the city’s City Gate area under Akbarshah police station.
The police also detained a suspected human trafficker identified as Kabir Ahmed, 45, of Cox’s Bazar. Kabir told the police that he was an employee of a travel and tours agency named ‘Alif Overseas’.
“The rescued women hailing from Cox’s Bazar were going to Dhaka to board on a Saudi Arab bound plane. The detained travel agent claimed that the women were going to Saudi Arabia as house help.
