A court in Chittagong yesterday sentenced five persons, including two women, to life-term imprisonment for abducting a minor girl.
Judge of Chittagong Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal 1 Md Rezaul Karim handed down the verdict.
The convicts are Roksana, Rahima Begum, Md Karim, Mamunur Rasid and Jalal Uddin.
The court pronounced the verdict in presence of Mamunur Rashid while the four were on the run.
Apart from this, the court also acquitted another accused Nurul Bashar as charge brought against him could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, the convicts had abducted five-year old girl Faria Afrin Oishi from her house located at Chandgaon residential area on January 27 this year.
Later, the abductors had phoned Oishi’s father Jahed Hossen demanding Tk5 lakh as ransom while the father had sent Tk1.27 lakh to the abductors through a Bkash number.
On February 2, police rescued the girl from the house of Rahima at Banskhali upazila in Chittagong and arrested Roksana and Mamun.
Oishi’s father lodged an abduction case against them with Chandgaon police station.
After investigation, police submitted the charge sheet of the case accusing the five persons on May 14 and the court framed the charge against them on September 22.
