CID gets 3 more months

Update : 12 Nov 2015, 07:34 PM

A Dhaka court yesterday granted the Criminal Investigation Department three more months to complete further investigation into Major General Abul Manzoor murder.

Judge SM Saiful Islam of the First Additional District and Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order following a time petition filed by Abdul Kahar Akhand, also the investigation officer of the case.

After granting the time extension, the court warned the CID that no further time would be given for investigation. The court also fixed February 25 to submit the reinvestigation report.

With this extension, it was the seventh time the court had extended the time to submit the probe report.

On February 27 last year, the same court, on a petition filed by Special Public Prosecutor Asaduzzaman Khan Rochi, ordered further probe into the Manzoor murder when verdict on the case was at the final stage.

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, the prime accused in the case, was not present in the court as he was earlier exempted from personal appearance before the trial court.

The other two accused Maj (retd) Kazi Emdadul Haque and Lt Col (retd) Mostafa Kamaluddin Bhuiyan were present in the court.

Manzoor, Sector 8 commander during the Liberation War, was killed at Chittagong Cantonment on June 1, 1981, just two days after the killing of Ziaur Rahman.

Fourteen years after the murder, on February 28, 1995, Barrister Abul Mansoor Ahmed, brother of slain Gen Manzoor, filed a case with Panchlaish police station in Chittagong.

On June 27 in 1995, the CID submitted charge sheet to the court against the accused in the much-talked-about case.
