Key suspects in Taiwanese couple attack yet to be held

Update : 09 Nov 2015, 05:28 PM

More than three days have passed since an attack on a Taiwanese married couple in the capital's Uttara, but the police are yet to arrest the key suspects.

The condition of the husband, 54-year-old Wang Ming Chee, remains unchanged as he is yet to regain consciousness since the attack. His wife, Hawa Lee Lee, however is in a stable condition.

Wang and Hawa were attacked in the early hours of Friday when they tried to stop three men – who used to work at the factory owned by the couple – from robbing the house.

One of the suspects, Jahangir, was arrested the same day in Gazipur. But since then, no other significant progress has been seen in apprehending the two other suspects – Raju and Shaju.

However, seeking anonymity, investigators said they were close to arresting the attackers.

Shamir Hasib, general manger of the couple's company, told the Dhaka Tribune that Wang had not yet regained consciousness, but the couples' son Alex was now in Dhaka to support his parents.

A source close to the victims' family said a team of Taiwanese medical experts are expected to arrive soon in Dhaka to assess the condition of the couple and to decide whether they should be flown to Taiwan for better treatment.

According to the Apollo Hospital authorities, the condition of Wang was still critical, but Hawa was in a much better condition.
