Youth beaten to pulp for standing up to sister’s stalkers

Update : 04 Dec 2016, 07:30 PM
Stalkers in Jessore smashed the wrists, fingers and ankles of their prey’s brother with a hammer and metal rods because he protested the stalking. The victim, Tuhin Hossain, 29, son of Nurul Islam from Mathchakla of Hakimpur in Jessore, said another youth Jewel from the same village had been harassing his sister for a long time, so he protested on Tuesday, asking them to stop. Being angry, Jewel ganged up with his friends Akram, Asha, and Alam and raided Tuhin's house on Friday night, but luckily he was not home then. The next day when Tuhin went for groceries to Debipur bazar, Jewel and his gang attacked him in public. When Tuhin's scream caught the public attention, the attackers escaped. The locals immediately hurried him to the Chougacha Health Complex where he was admitted, and was shifted to Jessore General Hospital that evening for better treatment. Jessore General Hospital's emergency department doctor Kajal Mallik said both of Tuhin's wrists, fingers and ankles had been fractured. Chaugacha police station OC M Moshiur Rahman said: “We have heard about the incident and have visited the victim's house to ask them to file a case.” A case was filed with Chaugacha police station Sunday evening against seven people including Jewel, Akram, Asha, and Alam.
