13 held for illegal border crossing in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have detained 13 people from Putkhali border area of Benapole on charge of crossing the Indo-Bangla border illegally, say local police.

Local BGB members made the detention early Wednesday to Afzal Hossain, 23, Rafiqul Islam, 55, Rupam Sikder, 45, Hiron Kazi, 35, Kulsum, 35, Roma, 40, Sajeda, 25, Ratan, 20, Bishwajit, 23, Akash, 18, Mohadev Karmakar, 18, Abdur Rahman, 20, and Mokhlesh, 27.

All of them are from different areas of Norail, Khulna and Rajshahi districts.

When asked, Khulna 23 BGB battalion's Putkhali Camp Subedar Farid Uddin confirmed it to the Dhaka Tribune, saying they, on a tip-off, conducted a drive on Chorermath area of the border before dawn and caught the 13 while they were entering Bangladesh from India evading due immigration process.

All of the 13 were handed over to the Benapole port police station authorities, says its Sub-Inspector Manir Hossain.

Later, they were sent to local court following launching a case with the police station on charge of illegal border crossing.
