25 Jamaat men held in Bogra over Dhaka ASI murder

Update : 26 Oct 2015, 07:10 PM

Police in the last four days detained 47 Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir members in Bogra, and said 25 of them were suspected to be involved in the October 22 killing of ASI Ibrahim Mollah in Dhaka.

Jamaat did not officially respond to the allegation.

Masudur Rahman Masud, a Shibir member who hails from Bogra, was detained from the scene where ASI Ibrahim was murdered. On Friday, a detective team from Dhaka held four Jamaat members, including the party’s nayeb-e-ameer of Adamdighi upazila unit Dr Yunus Ali, and another 21 from different areas of the district. The 25 were taken to Dhaka.

Later, another 22 Jamaat and Shibir members were detained between Saturday and yesterday.

Arifur Rahman Mondol, additional superintendent of police in Bogra, said some Jihadi books were seized from the possession of the detained Jamaat and Shibir members.

“Of the 47, 22 were held in subversion cases. Police operation is still underway,” he said.

The police operation created panic among Jamaat and Shibir leaders as many top figures went into hiding to avoid being caught.

Family members of the detainees refused to talk to reporters, but some of them said on condition of anonymity that the police operation was aimed at suppressing Jamaat.
