Police arrested a youth in the district yesterday on charge of attack a schoolgirl on Sunday.
Sources said Towhid Mian,22, son of Humayun Mian of Pan Kalima village in Sadar upazila had been trying to tease the girl, student of Class X for three years.
On the day, the girl was going to school as usual. Towhid and his associates tried to took her anywhere forcefully. At one stage, they hacked her leaving critically injured while they failed to kidnap her.
On information, locals rescued her and admitted to Kishoreganj General Hospital.
Later, Abdul Kayum, uncle of the girl, filed a case accusing Towhid and his nine associates.
Students, teachers and locals brought out human procession on the day protesting the attack.
Mir Mosarraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj police station , confirmed the incident.
