The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (CIID) officials on Friday detained a person with four gold bars worth of Tk20 lakh at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.
The detainee, Towhidul Alam, is hailing from Satkania upazila, said customs intelligence officers.
Assistant Director of CIID, Chittagong Pranay Chakma said the person landed in Chittagong in a flight RAK891 of Sharjah Airlines from Rassel Al Khaimer of UAE in the morning while the customs intelligences personnel challenged him for his suspicious movement.
Later searching his hand bag, four gold bars worth of Tk 20 lakh which weighting around 467 grams (40 tolas) were seized, told the official adding that he said Towhid’s passport was seized in this regard.
