2 held with 6,80,000 pieces of yaba in Chittagong

Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone and Department of Narcotic Control (DNC), in a joint drive, have arrested two persons in possession with around 6, 80,000 pieces of yaba pills from a fishing boat in outer anchorage in Chittagong.

The two arrestees were Faridul Alam, 40 and his associate Abul Kalam, 35, hailing from Anwara upazila, said coast guard sources.

Bangladesh Coast Guard (East Zone) Public Relations Officer Lt CommanderDurul Huda told the Dhaka Tribune that being tipped off from DNC Chittagong’s official coast guard launched an operation in outer anchorage at Patenga area from Tuesday late night.

“The coast guard personnel lunched the operation in guise of fishermen at the outer anchorage while we identified the fishing boat carrying the drug items from Myanmar and held the duo at around 10:30am on Wednesday,” he added.

Later searching the boat a 6, 80,000 pieces of yaba pills were seized which were kept inside four sacks, said the coast guard officials.

During primary interrogation, the duo confessed that the consignment of the huge amount of drug was brought from Myanmar while the duo had been peddling the drug behind the fishing business since long, said DNC officials.
