A confusing situation has created whether the death of Lipi, daughter-in-law of former Awami League MP Mollah Jalaluddin, was murder or not.
A three-member probe body was formed to find out motive behind the death.
Police recovered the bullet-ridden body of Rabbi Sultana Lipi, 30, from her residence located in South Central Road area, Khulna around 8:30pm on Wednesday.
She was the wife of Jalaluddin’s eldest son Mollah Kamaluddin. Mollah Jalaluddin filed a case against his nephew Hedayet.
According to Lipi’s younger sister Ankhi who is a witness of the incident, said Hedayet entered Lipi’s bedroom around 8pm. He requested Lipi to show him the shotgun licensed to Lipi’s husband Kamaluddin. Then, Lipi brought out the gun from a closet and gave it to Hedayet.
Hedayet took the gun and holding it point blank at Lipi’s forehead said, as if joking, “Shall I pull the trigger?!”
Then there was a loud bang and Lipi’s skull was blown off, said Ankhi.
Hedayet fled the spot as she started shouting. Khulna police station Officer-in-Charge Shukumar Biswas said though the deceased’s family members claimed the incident to be an accident, police was trying to find out if Hedayet had any other motive. The probe team is headed by Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights, Khulna, Coordinator Advocate Mominul Islam.
