An Italian citizen was shot dead by one or more unidentified assailants in the capital’s Gulshan diplomatic zone yesterday evening.
The deceased was 50-year-old CesareTavella, the project manager for Netherlands-based development organisation ICCO.
Police sources said the foreigner – whose dress suggested that he was out for jogging – was found with bullet wounds around 6:15pm near Road 90 of Gulshan 2. He was taken to United Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 7pm.
Police suspect that the death might be a premeditated murder as no money had been snatched from the victim. Hospital sources told the Dhaka Tribune that Cissera had several gunshot wounds on his body.
Acting IGP Mokhlesur Rahman visited the crime scene as well as the hospital. He said the police were looking for clues and searching if there was any CCTV footage captured near the scene of the incident.
