A Sylhet court will record witness depositions in the former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria murder case on September 30.
Makbul Ahsan, judge of Sylhet Division Speedy Trial Tribunal, gave the order yesterday in the presence of the accused.
The tribunal’s Special Public Prosecutor advocate Kishor Kumar Kar said 22 accused, including former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar, Sylhet City Corporation’s dismissed mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Harkat-ul-Jihad leader Mufti Hannan, out of the 32 were present in the courtroom.
On June 11, the Habiganj district and sessions judge, Md Atabullah, ordered the transfer of the case to the tribunal for speedy disposal. The case was earlier transferred to the District and Sessions Judge Court on June 2.
Criminal Investigation Department’s Senior ASP Meherunnesa Parul submitted the supplementary charge sheet against 32 accused in the case.
Kibria, who was the finance minister of the Awami League-led government from 1996 to 2001, and four others died in a grenade attack at a rally in Habiganj in January 2005.
Two cases were lodged in connection with the attack.
