The officials of Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (CIID) have detained clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent Shamim from Chittagong city.
The arrest was made on Sunday morning, Syed Mukadech Hossain, assistant director of CIID, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune.
On Sunday, the CIID officials seized four containers at Chittagong port’s Yard Number 1 area.
On Monday morning, Dr Moinul Khan, DG of CCID, visited the Chittgaong port.
He said one of the containers was opened and a total of 165 cartons of Indian Rupees were found.
“All the Indian Rupees found in the 165 cartoons are fake,” added Moinul.
The counting of the amount of Rupees is underway, he said.
The four containers were deported from Dubai on September 16 in the name of clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent Shamim of Chittagong.
