Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone, in a drive, has arrested three alleged pirates, including a ring, leader from Patenga area in Chittagong city.
The arrestees were Md Ilias Hossen, 48, Md Yunus, 32, Uttam Biswas, 50, said coast guard sources.
Of the arrestees, Ilias was the ring leaders of the pirate gang.
The coast guard members recovered two handcuffs, a binocular and cash Tk46,505 and seized a fishing trawler that used in robbery from their possession, said Lieutenant Commander Durul Islam of Coast Guard East Zone.
“Being tipped-off, a team of coast guard lunched four hours long drive from 12:00pm to 4:00pm on Tuesday at Ghat no:15 area under Patenga police station and held the trio along with the cash and trawler,” added Durul Islam.
During primary interrogation, the trio admitted that they robbed of a fishing trawler “MV Allar Dan” on August 25.
The coast guard also recovered the looted fishing net, oil, battery from the seized trawler.
The arrestees were handed over to the Patenga police station, said the high official.
