Housewife abducted from home, gang-raped

Update : 28 Aug 2015, 07:36 PM

A housewife was allegedly gang-raped by eight to 10 young men in the capital’s Sabujbagh area on Tuesday night.

The 25-year-old woman was admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital yesterday afternoon. Earlier in the day, she filed a case with Sabujbagh police, mentioning the names of 10 youths, said DMP Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hossain.

Some of the accused are Mehedi, Monir Hossain, Liton, Khokon, Masum, Zakir, and Mithu alias Mintoo.

The victim told the Dhaka Tribune that she and her husband came to Bangladesh from Oman about four months ago and rented a house at Nandipara under Sabujbagh. On Tuesday evening, the accused stormed into their house and claimed that the couple was having illicit relations.

The woman asserted that they were married, but the assailants then demanded to see a marriage certificate, which the couple could not immediately provide.

They also demanded Tk50,000 which the couple refused to pay. Then they tortured the husband and abducted the wife. She was taken to a nearby under-construction building, where eight to 10 of the assailants raped her by turn that night.
