Robber killed in Keraniganj gunfight with police

A person has allegedly been killed in a gunfight took place at South Keraniganj area between the police and a robber-gang early Sunday.

Two people have been arrested after the gunfight.

Police said all the three were members of inter-district robber gang.

The deceased Md Yusuf, 35, hailed from Bigha village in Dhaka’s Dohar area.

And the two arrested were Ismail hailing from Matowali village in Shariatpur and Sohrab, 30, hailed from Awliabad village in Madaripur.

Officer-in-charge of South Keraniganj police station Monirul Islam said the gunfight took place at Par Gendaria’s Shatpakhi area around 1:45am.

The law enforcers also detained two other members of the ‘robber-gang’ when they were tried to flee from the spot.

The official said they had raided the spot based on a tip-off of 9-10 robbers were preparing for a heist.

“The robbers opened fire after they found police approaching. The policemen also retaliated and Yusuf was hit. Ismali and Sohrab were caught as they were fleeing.”

Doctors declared Yusuf dead when he was taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital around 3am, the OC added.

A foreign pistol, two rounds of ammunition and a number of local weapons were seized from those arrested.
