An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight between his cohorts and members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police at Perul on the Comilla-Laksam Road in Sadar Dakkhin upazila early yesterday.
The deceased Abdul Kader, 35, was son of Sahadat Hossain of Bharanikhanda village in Monoharganj upazila.
Shah Kamal Akanda, sub-inspector of Comilla DB police, said on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30 am while a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery.
Sensing the presence of the police, the robbers opened fire to them and the law enforcers also retaliated with firing, triggering a gunfight.
During the gunfight, four robbers, including Abdul Kader, were injured. Police also arrested eight robbers while fleeing the scene.
Abdul Kader died on way to Comilla Medical College Hospital while his two associates were admitted to the hospital.
