A tenth grade indigenous girl was allegedly raped while receiving treatment at a hospital in Lama upazila of Bandarban district.
An employee of the hospital Nur Mohammad was arrested in this connection.
Victim’s uncle Ajawha Tripura told the Dhaka Tribune that his niece was injured when her mother hit her following a quarrel on Monday. The next day she was admitted to the Lama Upazila Health Complex to get some first-aid.
While she was on her to buy medicine from a pharmacy outside the hospital, three men – Nur Mohammad, Mohammad Selim and Shah Alam – blocked her way. They forcefully took her inside the hospital compound and raped her there, said Ajawha Tripura.
Mohammad Selim’s wife was admitted to the bed next to the victim in the hospital.
The victim, a student of class ten at Gojaliya High School in the upazila, was sent to Bandarban District Sadar Hospital yesterday for further medical inspection.
Police arrested Nur following a complaint lodged by William Tripura, a relative of the girl, against the three yesterday.
