A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist of Madan Mohan University College unit in Sylhet city has been knifed to death by his rivals over allegedly long-running factional conflict.
The victim is Mohammad Ali, 22, son of Aklis Miah, from Nij Silam village in Dakkhin Surma upazila of the district.
Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shohel Ahmed confirmed the death to the Dhaka Tribune. He said Ali succumbed to his injuries at Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet around 2:30pm on Wednesday.
On information, police visited the crime scene, said the OC.
The OC continued that they were trying best to unearth the causes behind the killing.
Sources on the campus said there are two BCL groups, one led by Arun Debnath another by Parvej, active in Madan Mohan University College unit and they have been loggerheads for long over establishing supremacy on the campus.
On Tuesday, twelfth-grader Mohammad Ali, follower of Arun Debnath group, locked in brawling with some members of his rival group.
In a sequel to the incident, some followers of Parvej group stabbed Ali repeatedly on the second floor of the college around 12pm, leaving him critically injured.
The college teachers brought him to Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet.
About ten bags of blood had to push into Ali's body as a major injury appeared in his heart.
When contacted, the college's Principal Dr Abul Fateh Fattah said: “Ali has become victim of stabbing in front of chemistry department. Such type of incident inside college is certainly unfortunate.”
