The investigation officer yesterday gave deposition against three accused including Oishee Rahman in a case filed over the killing of her parents SB inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Rahman in the capital on August 16, 2013.
Judge Sayeed Ahmed of the Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal 3 recoded the deposition of Abul Khair Matubbar, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police, in the case. The court also fixed today for his cross-examination.
With this, 37 prosecution witnesses gave their depositions in the case. “Recording depositions of the prosecution witnesses will be concluded soon,” special public prosecutor Mahbubur Rahman said.
Police yesterday produced Oishee and her friend Asaduzzman Jony before the court while another accused Mizanur Rahman Rony, now on bail, also appeared during the proceedings.
According to the case statement, the bodies of Mahfuzur and his wife Swapna were found at their Chamelibagh residence in the capital on August 16, 2013. Oishee, who had taken her O-level examination, surrendered before the Paltan police station the next day. Later, police arrested their house maid Khadiza Khatun Sumi, and Oishee’s friends Jony and Rony.
On March 9 last year, the IO submitted two charge sheets against the four accused. One charge sheet was pressed against Oishee and her two friends while the other against Sumi who is under 18. Her trial proceeding is taking place at a juvenile court in Dhaka.
According to the charge sheets, Oishee alone killed her parents while Jony instigated the murders and Rony gave her shelter after the incident while Sumi has been accused of assisting Oishee in concealing the bodies.
Oishee’s uncle filed the case. He, however, in his testimony claimed that Oishee had not murdered her parents. He said miscreants might have killed the couple over previous feud.
