Indigenous girl raped in Chittagong

Update : 07 Aug 2015, 07:18 PM

An indigenous girl was gang-raped allegedly by seven men in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong early yesterday.

The police rescued the 18-year-old Tripura girl from a hill at the upazila’s Chhoto Kumira area and sent her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Sitakunda Sub-Inspector Abdul Motaleb Sarker said the girl was raped at a Tripura village located at Gul Ahmed hill around 1:30am.

Quoting the victim and her husband, SI Motaleb said a group of seven armed Tripura men entered the thatched house of the girl and attacked her husband with sharp weapons.

“They picked the girl up and took her to the hill’s peak where they gang-raped her.”

The police, after being informed by the girl’s husband, arrived at the hill and rescued her around 3am but the men who raped her managed to escape.

The victim’s husband yesterday morning lodged a case accusing Manindra Tripura, 23, Jatindra Tripura, 22 and five other unnamed persons with Sitakunda police station.

“During primary investigation, we found that Manindra often used to walk around the victim’s house and she could identify him during the incident,” SI Motaleb said.
