A suspected robber has been killed in a mob beating at Namila village in Kapasia upazila in the district.
The deceased was identified as Shamim, 40, son of Gias Uddin, a resident of Panchahar village in Gaforgoan upazila of Mymensingh district.
Ahsan Ullah, officer-in-charge of Kapasia police station, confirmed the death to the Dhaka Tribune
Quoting locals, he said a gang of 15/20 armed robbers stormed into three houses of the village around 2:30am on Thursday.
The gang looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from the houses, said the police official.
During the time, the victims shouted for help. Hearing the shouting, locals surrounded the robbers and caught Shamim, one of the gang members.
However, the rest of the robbers managed to flee with the booty.
The villagers beat Shamim mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police went to the village and recovered the body.
Shamim was accused in 18 cases including murder and robbery cases filed with different police stations of Gazipur, Mymensingh, Netrokona and Narsingdi districts, added the OC.
