Woman murdered allegedly by brother

Update : 05 Aug 2015, 11:59 AM

A woman has been strangled to death allegedly by her elder brother in the capital's Bangshal area Wednesday.

The victim is Asma Akter, 55, wife of Hazi Jahangir Hossain, of Bagdash Lane in Bangshal.

According to Asma's four-year-old grandson Bappi, Akbar Hossain, 60, elder brother of the victim, entered her room on Wednesday morning, strangled her and fled the scene immediately.

Hearing the cry of Bappi, who was sleeping with his grandmother in the same room, other family members rushed in and took Asma to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared her dead around 8am.

Asma's son Sumon, 25, also the father of Bappi, told the Dhaka Tribune: “My uncle might have killed my mother following an altercation over monetary feud.”

When contacted, Bangshal police station SI Monjurul Haque told the Dhaka Tribune: “Victim's grandson claimed that her brother strangled her. But, nothing can be said right now as Bappi is only four-year-old.

“We are searching for Asma's brother. The actual event can be known once the police arrest Akbar.”
