Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested five people along with 12.5 kilograms of gold from the capital’s Khilgaon area.
The arrestees were identified as Sayed Mahmud alias Hasan Javed, 37, Md Forkan, 27, Meherunnesha, 45, Bibi Fatema, 30, and their driver Shamsul Alam, 44.
Lt Col Khondokar Golam Sarowar, commanding officer of RAB-3, made the disclosure at a press briefing on Sunday at RAB-3 Headquarters in the capital’s Tikatoli area.
He said based on information of gold smuggling, the elite force first targeted a private car from Rampura area and chased it till Khilgaon at 12:30am.
“Later, we challenged the car and recovered 12.5 kg gold bar from it.”
The RAB men also arrested five people along with the gold, he added.
