A teenage girl has been gang-raped and murdered in Narainpur village under Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet.
The alleged perpetrators including her boyfriend have been absconding since the incident.
The victim Farida Begum, 17, was abducted from her house by the gang at midnight on July 24. Her parents, Md Riyaj Ali and Renu Megum, were out of the house to attend funeral of a relative at that time, said locals.
The next day, her relatives and locals looked for her at all possible spots but could not trace her. After two days into missing, Farida’s blood-stained dead body was found hanging from the ceiling of a toilet inside the house of her neighbour Anisul Hoque Chowdhury.
Hearing the news, many including Lokkhiprasad Union Parishad Chairman Dr Foyaz Ahmed came to visit the sight.
Victim’s father Riyaz Ali, who is a fisherman by profession, filed a case in this connection yesterday. Locals formed a human chain protesting the incident yesterday.
Kanaighat police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Awal Chowdhury said they could not confirm the reason behind the death before getting the report of autopsy at hand. The body was sent to Osmani Medical College after rescue.
Last Monday, the body was buried in the village graveyard. When local journalists went to Farida’s place on Thursday locals informed them that Farida’s boyfriend Azir Uddin, resident of Panichhara Borokheur village, his father Montaj Ali Montai and brother-in-law Shorif Uddin had raped and killed the girl brutally and hang her body from the ceiling of the toilet. As the locals became agitated they fled from their house in Borokheur village which was three kilometre away from the spot.
UP Chairman Foyaz Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune that Farida belonged to a poor family. He would present the matter at the meeting of Kanaighat Upazila Law and Order Management Committee tomorrow.
Amina Begum, Hajira Begum and Alchu Begum, who cleaned Farida’s dead body before burial, said they found a number of marks of injury on the girl’s body including her private parts. They demanded exemplary punishment to those involved with the murder.
