Killing of schoolgirl after rape protested

Teachers, students and staffs of Digangarh High School in the district yesterday protested the killing of Rikta Khanam, a student of the school, after rape.

They brought out a precession demanding exemplary punishment to the culprits who brutally killed the girl.

The procession rounded the streets in the town and later formed a human chain.

Among others, Shamsul Alam Siddiqi,  headmaster of the school, Mahmudul Hasan, member of the managing committee, SM Emdadul Haque, Abul Kashem and Sadia Akter spoke on the occasion.

The seventh-grade girl of the school was killed allegedly after rape at Saradi village under Muksudpur upazila.

Rikta’s uncle Kaiyum Sheikh said she left her maternal grandfather’s residence for home on Monday morning but did not reach home.

Later, locals found Rikta’s body at the abandoned house of one Mojid Mia at Saradi village at noon.

Being informed, police recovered the body at night.

Sindiaghat police outpost Sub-inspector Gias Uddin said they found evidence of rape on the spot.

Four persons were detained for interrogation in this connection, he said.
