Detective Branch (DB) of Police have detained eight members of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) including its acting ameer from the capital's Uttara area.
The detainees are JMB acting ameer Abu Talha Mohammad Fahim alias Pakhi, JMB's Sylhet Division Ordinator Shofiqul Islam, JMB's Mymensingh Division Coordinator Ruhul Amin, Mymensingh City Coordinator Emdadul Hoque, Financier and also Mymensingh's Torkhani Resturant owner Rofiq Ahmed alias Jewel, Mohammad Mostofa, Mohammad Shakhawat Ullah, and Ali Ashraf Rajeeb.
Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of the DMP, said: “They were detained from Uttara around 7pm Monday. They had gathered in the area to set Fahim's father Maulana Sayedur Rahman free from jail.”
They even had the plan to publicise JMB to people, he said.
DB police also recovered jihadi books and leaflets from their possession.
DB North Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahfuzur Islam told the Dhaka Tribune: “We suspect that they have been getting foreign financing to execute their plan but we can only be sure about it once they are interrogated in remand.”
