Teenager abducted by boyfriend, rescued from brothel

Update : 24 Jul 2015, 07:55 PM

A 15-year-old RMG worker was rescued from a brothel in Mymensingh by police early yesterday after being abducted by her boyfriend from Dhaka’s Ashulia area last week.

Police also arrested her boyfriend, Md Sentu Islam Shakil, 25, and his friend Alamgir Hossain, 26, on Wednesday and, based on their statement, found the victim at the brothel, sources told.

According to the victim’s family, the victim went missing on July 17 evening and after not being able to find her, they filed a case of missing person with Ashulia police station the next day – the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Police then used the missing girl’s mobile phone’s call list to find the trace of her boyfriend, following which they arrested him from Nabinagar in Savar and then Alamgir from Konakandi in Ashulia, said Ashraful Azim, additional assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Dhaka.

They confessed to abducting the girl and selling her to a brothel in Mymensingh Kotwali, from where police rescued her yesterday.

Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, the victim said she first met Shakil at National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar two or three months ago, and over time a relationship developed between them.

On July 17 night, Shakil called her on her phone and told her to go to Jirani Bazar in Ashulia to meet him for Eid shopping.

When she reached there, Shakil along with Alamgir, another friend Rashed and five others forced her into a microbus, raped her and took her to a house in Mymensingh Kotwali.

“They all raped me and sold me to Rimi [the house owner], who later forced me into prostitution,” the victim said.

She was later sent to a One-Stop Crisis Centre for treatment, ASP Ashraful said.

“Rimi fled the house when she sensed the presence of police. However, drives will continue to arrest her and the rest of the culprits,” he said.
