Police on Sunday night arrested a madrasa student from Jorarganj area of Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.
The arrestee, Md Rasel, 18, is a student of a local madrasa and he hailed from Bariakhali area of the upazila’s Katachara union, police said.
Quoting the victim’s father, Sub-Inspector Abdul Hanif of Jorarganj police station said Rasel allegedly raped the girl in absence of her parents, behind her residence on Sunday night.
When her father returned home, he could not find her daughter; later, he found her behind the house in critical condition.
Rasel was detained by villagers when he attempted to flee the scene. Later he was handed over to police, said the SI.
A case was lodged with the police station in this regard and the victim was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital One-stop Crisis Centre.
