Three alleged robbers were beaten to death by a mob at Baherchar in Hizla, Barisal in the early hours of yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Miraz Molla, Harun Bepari of Khulna and Hanif Sardar of Hizla upazila.
Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Hizla police station, said local people caught three robbers around 3am while they were allegedly taking preparation to commit robbery at the village.
Sensing their presence, villagers caught them and then gave them a good beating, leaving the three dead on the spot. Police recovered five sharp weapons and the bodies from the spot in the morning.
The lynched victims were members of dacoit gang ‘Yusuf Sardar Bahini’, said Khalilur Rahman, chairman Barojalia union parishad, adding that Yusuf Sardar was also lynched by a mob on May 17.
