Police arrested a man at Karbala village in Niamatpur upazila of the district yesterday for killing his wife.
Obaidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Niamatpur police station, said Afal Das of the village beat up his wife Sanda Rani Das,24, around 2.30am on June 27, mercilessly demanding dowry. Hearing her screaming, locals went to the spot and rescued her. Later, she was admitted to Niamatpur Health Complex from where she was sent to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital. She succumbed her injuries on Friday in the hospital.
Nazi Das, father of Sanda filed a case accusing Afal in this connection on Saturday.
On a tip-off, the police arrested him in the morning and sent to jail.
