Mystery shrouds death of grocer

A grocer was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in the capital’s Kadamtoli area yesterday morning. However, police detained his wife and the son for questioning over the murder.

The deceased Md Abu Zafar, 42, son of Abu Hanif Khlifa, hails from Haziganj area of Chandpur district.

Sources said Zafar had been living with his family at Merajnagar in Rayerbagh of the area and he went out for Fazar prayers.

His one tenant named Md Mohsin around 6am spotted Zafar’s body laying at the entrance of his six-storied building and informed the  family members.

Later, he died in Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 7:30am.

Deceased’s elder brother Siddiqur Rahman said Zafar had married Halima Begum secretly and one and a half years back he forced to divorce the second wife on the face of pressure from his first wife Nur Jahan.

Nur Jahan and the couple’s older son Saiful Islam used scold him for the second marriage.

Siddiqur’s alleged that Zafar’s wife might have killed him.

In the primary investigation report, police mentioned that there were several deep injury marks on the neck of Zafar.

When contacted, Kadamtoli police station OC Abdus Salam said police detained Nur Jahan and Saiful for their alleged involvement in the murder.

The body was returned back to the family members after conducting an autopsy. l
