Police yesterday recovered the body of 22-year-old housewife from a reserve water tank at a house in the capital’s Mirpur Area.
The deceased Brishti Aktar, 22, hailing from Malpara, Louhojong area of Munshiganj, was living with her husband Mohammad Mahiuddin in a two-storey house at 6/7, Block-H, Road 5/1 of Gudaraghat area under Shah Ali police station.
Brishti’s family alleged that her husband and in-laws murdered her and then dumped the body in the reserve tank. However, Mahiuddin and his family denied the allegation and said Brishti went missing since Saturday.
Sub Inspector (SI) of Shah Ali police station Abdul Hamid said police recovered the body around 12:30am on Monday and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.
Brishti’s uncle Mohammad Israfil said Brishti and Mohiuddin got married six years ago and they had an 11-month-old boy.
“Mahiuddin on Saturday informed us that Brishti left home after an altercation with him and she could not be traced since then.”
Mahiuddin also filed a General Diary with the police station, he added.
On late Sunday night, the caretaker of the house opened the tank to check the water level and found the body floating there. He said the missing incident seemed suspicious to him and he informed the police.
SI Abdul Halim said: “Since her family said she went missing, we are interrogating the husband now.”
He further said the tongue of the deceased was sticking out and there was sign of blood coming out of her mouth and ear.
“She might have been killed between 10am to 12am three days ago. Since the body was under water for three days, no injury marks were found,” the SI said adding that Brishti could have been strangled to death.
