AL leader vandalizes UNO office in Bogra

An Awami League leader allegedly took to vandalism in the office of Upazila Nirbahi Officer at Bogra on Sunday afternoon.

Abu Sufyan Shafiq, president of Sadar Upazila Awami League and also chairman of Sakhariya upazila, was accused of misbehave with the UNO Shahana Akhter Jahan.

According to the case detail, the local ruling party activists led by Abu Sufian misbehaved with UNO Shahana Akhter Jahan and vandalized her office as she held a delivery order of two metric-ton of rice under Food for work project fearing waste of government resources.

On Monday afternoon, the UNO told journalists that Office a case against 20 persons including Abu Sufian was filed with Sadar police station on Sunday night.

Second Officer Aslam Ali of Bogra Sadar Police confirmed the case was filed on Sunday night and recorded on Monday afternoon.

The officials at the Upazila Parishad said four metric tons of rice were allocated in the current fiscal year for the reform work of the road from Eidgah ground to to the second bypass road in Rajapur Union of Sadar Upazila, under the project of Food for work.

Union Parishad member of Ward-6, Abdul Mannan, drew two tons of rice as the first tranche.

However, the UNO held up the delivery order of the remaining tranche the work had already been done under LGSP project.

Around 3pm on Sunday, activists of the Awami League led by Abdul Mannan went to the office of the Project Implementation Officer. They pressed for the allocation of DO.

At the time the project implementation officer went to the UNO.

Sadar Upazila Awami League president and Sakhariya Union Parishad chairman Abu Sufyan Shafiq went to the the UNO office along with a group of party activists and asked for the issuing the DO.

At that time he also asked the project implementation officer to go out of the UNO office, which the UNO protested.

Then the activists went on vandalizing the office and misbehaved with the UNO.

Following the incident, Sadar Upazila Parishad office assistant Ruhul Amin filed a written complaint against Abu Sufyan Shafiq, Mannan, Rashed, and Jewel with Sadar police station in the night on Sunday.

The case was recorded on Monday afternoon as some necessary corrections had to be made and the OC was busy, Second officer Aslam Ali said.
