Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque while addressing a meeting held at the police headquarters yesterday asked the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities to conduct special drives to catch criminals as dope gangs, muggers and extortionists become more active ahead of Eid.

“It is our responsibility to ensure people’s security and which is why law enforcers need to remain active day and night, he said.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah, who was present at the meeting, informed the IGP that they had already been able to curb crimes during the month of Ramadan.

The DMP boss further said law enforcers are working relentlessly to curb petty crimes as the city sees nearly two crore of people at the time just before the Eid.

This time around the incidents of crimes go up, he said adding that they were trying their best to contain the crimes.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, DMP Additional Commissioner Maruf Hassan, Additional DIG Md Jahirul Islam Bhuiyan and DMP DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam were, among others, present at the meeting.
