A case was filed yesterday against 18 people including two sub-inspectors of Pallabi police on charges of extortion.
Laboni, wife of hotel owner Minal from Uttar Kalshi in the city’s Pallabi area, filed the case with the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
The two SIs are Zahidur Rahman and Jubair Hossain. The others include locals Saiful Islam, Amanullah, Md Rubel, Siraj Box and Harun.
After recording the complainant’s statement, Judge Muhammad Tareq Moinul Islam Bhuiyan directed the deputy commissioner of police (Mirpur Zone) to conduct investigation over the allegation and submit a report before it.
On May 12, some 12 people including Saiful and Amanullah demanded Tk10 lakh from the plaintiff’s uncle Momin while he was supervising the construction work of Heavenly Property near Mirpur Ali Nagar Housing, the case says.
On June 14, they attacked on Laboni’s brother Rajib and uncle Momin when they went to work at the site leaving them critically injured. They were admitted to Dhaka medical College Hospital.
SI Zahid arrested them from the DMCH and demanded Tk1 lakh as extortion. The plaintiff gave him Tk60,000 in a bid to save life.
On June 18, SI Jubair detained and tortured the plaintiff’s father in-law from a hotel on Ceramic Road in Pallabi and demanded Tk60,000.
Following this, the plaintiff gave him Tk20,000. But he took away 20 rickshaws of the plaintiff as they had failed to give the remaining amount. They also threatened to implicate the family members of the plaintiff in a murder case.
